WHAT SUSTAINABILITY MEANS TO US

At Rabbit Hill Snow Resort, sustainability is about more than just the environment — it’s about building a strong future for our community, our team, and our business. For us, sustainability stands on three pillars:

Environmental Responsibility

Protecting the land and natural spaces that make Rabbit Hill such a special place.

Social Responsibility

Creating a welcoming, accessible space where everyone feels they belong — and supporting the people who make this place run.

Economic Responsibility

Making choices that support our long-term success so future generations can enjoy Rabbit Hill for decades to come.

Environmental Initiatives

We will begin tracking our carbon emissions using Green Economy Canada CarbonHound platform starting May 1, 2025. This will allow us to measure emissions from the 2024/25 season, supported by an Environmental Management intern joining us in May

Sustainability Committee
We established a cross-departmental Sustainability Committee in April 2024. Meetings combine sustainability education with team discussions on ideas and initiatives to test and implement. Building a more sustainable business requires solutions tailored to our unique circumstances, and our rural location presents challenges and opportunities.

Waste Reduction
This season, we conducted our first waste audit. We are working to determine the best options to reduce our waste. Since introducing the Sustainability Committee we are collecting all items that can be recycled or reused and taking donations to local reuse and recycling centres. We’ve already introduced a staff reusable cup program and switched to compostable food trays to reduce landfill-related greenhouse gas emissions. Our next goal is to implement organic waste separation when we can enlist a waste disposal company to accommodate our organic waste levels.

Repurposing & Reusing Materials
Our terrain park team gets creative each year by repurposing old materials — from barrels to scrap wood — into innovative park features. To celebrate our 70th season, we also upcycled retired staff uniforms into new products like bags and accessories. For more details visit here.

Alliance Member of Protect Our Winters (POW)
We are committed to protecting the places we play. As an alliance member of Protect Our Winters (POW) Canada, we are taking action to fight climate change and preserve winter sports for future generations.

Social Initiatives

Reducing Food Waste & Supporting Our Team: At the end of each day, any leftover food from our cafeteria is shared with our hardworking staff — reducing food waste while taking care of our team.

Accessibility for All: Through our partnership with CADS (Canadian Adaptive Snowsports), we are proud to offer accessible programs so people of all abilities can experience the joy of snowsports. Our tubing park is also designed to be inclusive and welcoming, ensuring as many people as possible can join in the fun.

Economic Initiatives

Economic Initiatives

Smart Spending: Each season, instead of purchasing brand-new radios, we rent or trade for equipment — saving money and reducing unnecessary waste.

Local Partnerships: We prioritize working with local companies and suppliers to support our region’s economy.

Our Goal

As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we are looking ahead to the next 70 years — working to reduce our environmental impact, invest in our community, and ensure Rabbit Hill remains a place where everyone feels welcome.
